International Days &
The Sustainables Academy
We love celebrating international days as they provide a valuable opportunity to integrate learning, awareness, and action on critical global issues while also fostering a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
International Days SDGs & UNCRC
By celebrating international days we can provide a valuable opportunity to integrate learning, awareness, and action on critical global issues while fostering a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Here’s why it’s such a powerful approach:

Holistic and Interconnected Learning
International days highlight the interconnected nature of global issues like education, climate change, biodiversity, and equity. By linking these days to SDGs and UNCRC, learners see the relationships between sustainability, human rights, and their daily lives. It promotes interdisciplinary learning, helping to bridge subjects like science, geography, ethics, and social studies.

Empowering Children Through Knowledge
The UNCRC underscores the importance of empowering children with the knowledge of their rights. Recognising international days allows educators to explore these rights in a tangible and engaging way. Linking these celebrations to SDGs shows how young people can take part in meaningful action for a sustainable future, inspiring confidence and agency.

Fostering Global Citizenship
Embedding SDGs and UNCRC in celebrations encourages learners to think beyond their immediate environment, nurturing empathy, responsibility, and awareness of global challenges. Learners gain insights into their rights and the responsibilities they have as global citizens to contribute to a sustainable, equitable world.

Aligning with Educational Frameworks
Many national curricula emphasise sustainability, rights, and critical thinking. International days offer ready-made opportunities to align these themes with curriculum goals. Activities linked to SDGs and UNCRC foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, key skills emphasised in modern education.
