New App Become an Earth Steward everyday - Coming July
By monitoring your sustainability journey through the One Sky app, – @oneskycollective on Instagram
you can become part of a global movement helping to tackle plastic pollution, support recycling initiatives, and contribute to tree planting projects around the world. The app encourages us to think differently about our everyday choices and recognise how small actions can create a big impact for the planet. It’s about changing the way we look at our lives, our communities, and the Earth itself—helping every user become a true Earth steward each and every day. The Sustainable Academy is proud to have been invited to join this exciting initiative with the ONE SKY Collective, and we would love our whole community to get involved too. The app officially launches in July, the same day the Men’s Football World Cup begins, connecting global sport with global sustainability action.

E for Education
Sustainability, circular, and regenerative education should be the first and main subject we teach because it helps learners understand how to care for the planet that supports all life. It builds a foundation for every other subject by connecting science, citizenship, creativity, and problem-solving with real-world purpose. Teaching young people how to live within Earth’s limits, restore ecosystems, and design for a better future is not just important — it’s essential. If we embed these values early, we empower the next generation to become stewards, innovators, and changemakers in a world that urgently needs them.
The Edge Thinking
For High Schools
EDGE is a four-part thinking framework that helps learners examine any sustainability topic through four important lenses:
🌟 E – Ethical
Who is affected? Is it fair? What rights, responsibilities, or values are involved?
🌟 D – Digital
What technologies, data, or digital systems are connected to this issue? How does technology help or harm?
🌟 G – Global
How does this issue affect different people, countries, or ecosystems around the world? Who benefits or loses?
🌟 E – Environmental
How does this issue affect the planet — air, water, soil, biodiversity, climate? How can we reduce harm or restore nature?

E for Ethos - Estate,Community and Culture
Ethos, culture, and community are at the heart of sustainability because they shape the way we think, act, and live together.
A strong Ethos rooted in care and responsibility helps guide choices that respect people and the planet.
Culture carries the stories, values, and traditions that connect us to nature and each other.
Community brings those ideas to life through shared action. When people feel a sense of belonging and purpose, they’re more likely to protect what matters and work together for lasting change.
Sustainability thrives not just through systems, but through relationships and shared values.
Supporting Guiding Scouting and DofE
We have created a series of resources to Support Leaders and Young Leaders to achieve these awards. Additionally all our resources can be used for group activities.
E for Emotional Wellbeing with
The Flourishables
Emotional well-being in the face of climate change and global environmental crisis is vital because it helps us process difficult feelings like fear, grief, or anger while staying hopeful and engaged. When young people feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or helpless, it can block their ability to learn, act, or imagine a better future. By supporting emotional well-being, we create space for reflection, resilience, and creativity. It empowers learners to move from worry to action, to find strength in community, and to believe that their voices and choices matter. A hopeful, emotionally aware approach turns climate education into a source of strength — not stress — and helps nurture the kind of compassionate, confident changemakers the world needs.
E for - Environment & School Estate
Our school environment is a living example of what we value — it teaches us every day through the way we treat our spaces, our resources, and each other. When we become ambassadors for sustainability in our school, we show leadership, responsibility, and care in action. This role helps us connect learning with real behaviour change — from saving energy and reducing waste to growing food and supporting others. By making our school a place where sustainable choices are visible and celebrated, we create a powerful culture of learning, pride, and positive change that can ripple into our homes and communities.

Circular School Award
Coming in 2026
The Circular Schools Award, hosted by The Sustainables Academy, is a recognition programme that celebrates schools taking action to live and learn in ways that protect and regenerate our planet’s resources. It encourages learners, educators, and communities to think beyond a “take, make, waste” approach and instead embrace the circular economy, where materials, energy, food, and water are valued, reused, and renewed. By working towards the award, schools empower young people to see themselves as Earth Stewards—responsible caretakers of our shared world—who understand that the choices we make today directly shape the wellbeing of future generations. This award is more than a badge of honour; it is a commitment to nurturing hope, resilience, and responsibility, ensuring that schools become living examples of how we can all support the Earth’s precious resources together.

E for Economy
Economy is the 5th “E” in sustainability education because no real progress can be made towards a sustainable future without understanding how money, markets, and livelihoods interact with the environment and society. Fair trade, export, industry, and technology are not just economic concepts—they are key drivers that shape how we use resources, how people are treated, and how innovation can either support or damage the planet. To build a just and sustainable future, young people must learn how economic systems operate within environmental limits and social frameworks. Understanding the links between trade practices and global inequality, the carbon impact of exports, the environmental footprint of industry, and the power of technology to solve (or worsen) ecological problems is essential. By embedding economic literacy within the climate and sustainability agenda, we empower future generations to make informed decisions that balance prosperity with planetary wellbeing.
