United Nations Sustainability Goals

Welcome to the Sustainable Academy Section, dedicated to supporting the teaching and learning of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These goals encompass 17 objectives crafted to address global challenges and enhance human well-being, environmental sustainability, and social equity. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SDGs form a comprehensive framework with specific targets and indicators to monitor progress.

The Sustainables Academy places a strong emphasis on sustainability, steering away from the traditional “take, make, dispose” model and embracing the principles of the Circular Economy. In this section, you will discover teaching and learning resources designed to instil a deep understanding of these concepts.

Examples of the goals covered in this academy include:

Goal 1: No Poverty:

Discuss how a circular economy can contribute to poverty reduction by creating job opportunities and supporting sustainable economic practices.

Goal 2: Zero Hunger:

Discuss sustainable agriculture practices and how a circular economy can contribute to achieving zero hunger by reducing food waste.

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being:

Connect a circular economy to well-being by discussing how reducing pollution positively impacts human health.

Goal 4: Quality Education:

Integrate discussions on sustainability and the circular economy into various subjects to promote a holistic understanding of these concepts.

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals:

Emphasise the importance of collaboration and partnerships in achieving the SDGs and transitioning to a circular economy.

We have produced planning documents and some lesson and topic / project planning. Educators are, however, encouraged to create engaging lesson plans, activities, and projects aligned with these goals, fostering a comprehensive understanding of sustainability and the circular economy among  Primary and Elementary school learners . Integration of these concepts into daily learning experiences will empower students to recognise the practical implications of the SDGs in their lives.
